Cote d’Ivoire will be hosting African and European leaders who will be meeting in late November, to discuss the future of the relations between the two continents.
Cote d’Ivoire’s proposal to host the 5th AU–EU summit was submitted in July 2016 in Kigali, Rwanda, during the 27th African Union summit and approved by African and European heads of state. The summit will likely be held November 29th-30th 2017.
This is the first time Sub–Saharan Africa will be hosting a summit of this kind. The previous summits have been held twice in North Africa namely Cairo in 2000 and Tripoli in 2010. Europe also hosted the summit twice, once Lisbon (2007) and in Brussels in 2014 where it was lastly held.
