The announcement was made by Jean-François Valette, head of the European Union in Cote d’Ivoire, on Saturday December 3rd 2016 in Agnibilékrou: “in 2017, the AU–EU summit will welcome the head of states from both continents in Abidjan. This summit will be proof of the European Union’s recognition of Cote d’Ivoire’s key role on the African continent. Beyond that, the EU wants to promote private investment to create employment that will allow Ivory Coast to maintain a high growth rate.” This decision follows the opening of a European Investment Bank (EIB) branch in Abidjan, the country’s economic and administrative capital, during the bank’s top executive M. Hoyer’s visit.
